Beith Health Centre policy on PSA Testing

There is no screening for prostate cancer within the UK as the PSA test can give both false positives and negatives. Prostate cancer is much more common as you get older. If you are over 50 or have a family history of prostate cancer we are happy to do a PSA test if you request this but please read the information sheet below before requesting. This would be for people who currently have no symptoms of prostate problems.

If you have symptoms that could indicate a prostate problem then the best course of action would be to submit an econsult through the practice website so your symptoms can be assessed by a clinician and the most relevant investigations undertaken.
